The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Watches through at least Saturday evening.
The advisories are now in effect and may be extended as the temperatures are expected raise even higher next week.
NWS has issued these alerts not only for Santa Barbara County but for most of Central and Southern California. Interior mountains and deserts should expect temperatures as high as 110 degrees while coastal valleys could get as hot as 95-105 degrees.
The City of Santa Barbara is expected to reach a high of 85 degrees on Thursday, and 86 on Friday and Saturday while 91 degrees is expected on Monday.
NWS suggests residents monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation. Be prepared to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
