Cat Canyon Brush Fire Contained at 5 Acres

The Cat Canyon fire has been contained at five acres.

Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Scott Safechuck states the forward progress was stopped at 5:40 p.m. prompting the release of air tankers and helicopters.

Ground crews will continue working to finalize containment lines and will proceed with mopping up hot spots.

While downed power lines were found nearby, the offical cause of the fire is under investigation.

Growing Brush Fire in Cat Canyon

Santa Barbara County firefighters and air tankers are responding to a growing brush fire in Cat Canyon.

At 4:24 p.m, the department received a call regarding a brush fire the 6000 block of Cat Canyon near Sisquoc. Crews were able to see smoke from County Fire Station 23 and issued a 2nd alarm response.

Upon arrival, firefighters noticed a power line was down in the 6700 block of Palmer Road near the fire.

Early estimation of the fire are 5 acres in medium to heavy fuel with a slight wind working its way to a north slope, stated Captain Scott Safechuck.

County Air Support Helicopter 964 is on the scene and three air tankers have been requested.
