A man was caught stuffing about 8 handles of liquor into a backpack and was confronted at the front door, right near the produce department.
The attendant who usually handles the liquor section of the store was standing in front of the doors and was pushed out by the assailant. Thus, the emergency doors gave way and the employee went falling backwards and hitting his head. He was transported to a nearby hospital. Before leaving, he was able to give his account of events to law enforcement.
The thief ran out of the store towards the back of the building and was intercepted by employees near the dumpster area. He then dropped the backpack and took off running towards the neighboring apartment complexes.
Santa Barbara County fire, AMR and SBSO responded quickly. Sheriff’s units searched the area for quite a while due to the severity of the offense.
Not only was this theft possibly commercial burglary, it was certainly assault. While also attacking a person who is considered a senior employee, also carries additional enhancements.
In hopes that the injuries are not more serious in nature, and to a quick recovery for this wonderful person.
Enjoy life, Santa Barbara, Goleta, Carpinteria.
It’s only going to get worse.
This pathetic behavior is heralded by too many people in this State!
The most pathetic behavior, but largely supported by your ilk, occurred on a January 6.
And despite Edhat shameful censorship when you say that: it’s only going to get worse.
Theft is being encouraged by a society who refuses to prosecute thieves !
Which con fantasy society is that?
You don’t look censored to me.. although probably should be for conspiracy theories and fear propaganda.
FOND – dude just stop. FPS all you do is scream about unfounded conspiracies. Move out of CA. Your mind will thank you. Go move to a “small town.”
Sac- “Small Town”? You don’t actually believe all that Jason Aldean BS, do you?
OG was being super sarcastic lol
It’s your town and your State and it IS getting worse all the time, but just keep your head in the sand: it’s a very intelligent way to run a society.
And those crimes have been institutionalized by the State who will not prosecute in one way or the other.
And this IS the sad and debilitating reality that this society has gotten to!
“it IS getting worse all the time.”
What is?
Can you quantify that?
@ 4:52 are they still conspiracy theories if they come true? Not sure where you’re coming from with Fondo’s “fear propaganda” that a markedly leftist trait, basically their entire platform.
“Fondo’s “fear propaganda” that a markedly leftist trait, basically their entire platform.” – whatABOUT?! “Blah blah blah the left does it”
Gads you have no limit to your deflection do you?
VOR– “fear propaganda as a leftist trait”.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
Remember Antifa? Remember when a bunch of you thought that Antifa was going to be storming the games of Santa Barbara?
I bet you don’t remember that at all right. You’re hysterical.
Maybe something like this https://www.hoover.org/research/why-shoplifting-now-de-facto-legal-california
Look, CA is weak on crime. Check yesterday’s Edhat story on the clown that was caught burglarizing and manufacturing drugs in his car.
“Carter was booked at the main jail for driving under the influence (misdemeanor), possession of burglary tools (misdemeanor), maintaining a lab for manufacturing drugs (felony), drug sales (felony), and transportation for sales (felony) and was later released on bail….”
Don’t you think that deserves jail time? If not, what then would you decide warrants a criminal to get locked up for at least some time, to learn a lesson?
Who you talking to, Doc? No one here is saying the perp shouldn’t face jail?
That’s YOU dude. LOL…
OK, so again…. who is saying he shouldn’t be locked up? Listen, Doc, I think you need to work on curtailing the imaginary scenarios you get all worked up about. It can’t be healthy.
It was just passed as a Ca law: IYou can steal under $ 950 as OFTEN as you want, nothing will happen to you!
FOND – lolololololol no. That is absolutely 100% wrong. Please stop the hysterical lies.
I’m talking to California voters.
LOL….. ok man. Good luck!
The fact that an alcoholic desperately attempted to steal alcohol is real small beans. But apparently we choose to focus on the collateral damage instead of the origination of the problem. So like us.
BASIC – still waiting. Where does the article say he “got off lightly?” You said that’s what the article says. Show us. Take a stance lol!
Any pictures or descriptions of the perp? The store must have cameras, right?
*store
The sore had a video from a customer, yet they were not willing to share immediately. The perp, WMA had a red shirt. that is all I could hear.
Hoping for a quick recovery for the employee and that they find the guy who did this. Alkie? Frat boy? Rum runner? Who steals that many in the middle of the day?
The description was that of a transient—possibly.
No company product is worth your physical health. I understand the impulse to stop the crime, but just don’t. Get out of the way and let the police deal with it, if they get there in time. People die from the falling on the back of their head all the time.
Pretty sure that in the article it mentions that the Gentleman who was protecting the store was a senior citizen and most likely lived in the generation where you stand up to thieves and protect yourself against people who are stealing or creating havoc, etc. Maybe nowadays society tells us to just let criminals get away with everything and hope that they are hunted down and punished , in some perfect Orson Wells world.. but until then, while we are in this juxtaposed world of old world and New World where honestly nobody really knows what’s going on..this man will always be a hero for standing up for not only himself and what he believes is right, but even more so as someone mentioned-he probably barely makes enough money to get by..but He is obviously proud of what he does and he should be…I don’t know him from the next person, but in order to act like this should never ever be looked at as anything less than brave and protective. It’s fight or flight reflex and it’s the same thing that will save you in any emergency situation. I don’t mean to rant and I know that every one has their own opinion and reasons for saying what they think, I’m just chiming in to say that it’s a reflex that not everyone has and I hope after you read this you might have a different perspective about his choice to act or not. Granted.. I know people steal stuff every day, but perhaps with 8 bottles on his persons and judging the situation he thought it was safe to proceed to confront him…
Feel free to respond and let me know your thoughts and opinions, as I said, this is just my opinion.. and I hope the employee a quick and full recovery.
Also, quite often they retire the Heros early, sad really
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Impulse to stop it understood here as well, but wage workers need to remember that if “Hero” was part of the job description, they are vastly underpaid to put life and limb on the line.
A clerk told me later the same night someone came in threw booze bottles on floor then sprayed lighter fluid by checkout all over the floor counters and people. Wtf is happening.
It is plain to see that the policies in California toward criminals is making each and every one of us unsafe. The drug guy who was passed out in his car a few days ago, with a huge list of violations, was in custody for less than 10 hours. To add insult, the LE agency responds with “Thanks to that reporting party, a DUI driver was taken off the streets…..” Really? Off the streets? For a few hours? Thanks?…..that’s where we’re at. In cities throughout the State of California people live in fear. Fear of being assaulted. Fear of being beaten for no reason or for reasons that are deemed to be acceptable (for example, the 74-year-old guy who was beat up for wearing a red hat that someone thought was MAGA hat…..”Ooopsie! I beat you up because I thought you were a Trump supporter….no worries here….no arrest for me….we get to beat you up because we do not agree with your politics….no jail….no problem.,,,,free to ruin your life all the time.”
The problem is when we, as a society, accept crime as “collateral damage” caused by us and not holding those commiting the crimes accountable…..like drug lab in vehicle….loads of drugs = you are a hero to our progressive values. Such a pile!
Hi all, I have a picture of the man if anyone is able to post it that would be awesome. We want this guy caught
Sneezycheese – couple of ways:
