CHP States DUI Involved in Fatal Montecito Traffic Collision

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has issued a preliminary report on the fatal traffic collision on Sunday morning.

At approximately 3:12 a.m., CHP received a report of a traffic crash which had occurred on the southbound Highway 101 north of Olive Mill Road.

“It was determined this traffic crash involved two vehicles which resulted in multiple injuries. One party succumbed to their injuries. Their name is being withheld until the family can be notified. The traffic crash caused a single lane closure of the southbound United States 101 freeway and reopened shortly before 0900 hours. The traffic crash is DUI related,” CHP states.

Any witnesses who might have seen the traffic crash are encouraged to contact the CHP Santa Barbara Area at (805) 967-1234.

While keeping the roadways safe is the job of the CHP, the public can assist in removing dangerous drivers from the road. If you see an impaired driver, call 9-1-1. Be prepared to give the dispatcher your location, direction of travel, and a description of the dangerous vehicle on the road – but be sure to keep yourself safe.

One person has died in an early morning traffic collision in Highway 101 southbound just north of the Olive Mill offramp.

The collision took place at 3:10 a.m. Sunday with two vehicles prompting emergency responders from the Montecito Fire Department to arrive on scene.

As a result of the crash, an SUV went down an embankment off the highway. One occupant was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene. The other occupant sustained major injuries and required extrication by firefighters.

Three people in the second vehicle sustained minor injuries. All patients were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by ground ambulance. 

The right lane of Highway 101 southbound near Olive Mill was closed for an extended period of time. 

Further details were not available at the time of publication. The cause of the collision is under investigation.

    • Please elaborate. HIPPA only applies to living people right? Just saying. Yet, I see Your point about info regarding health records of living people, although the informtion on an incident-report in a PDF which requires one having to open the doc may be the diffy. It’s not just visible on the open-web-page.
      Incidents on a State Highways are public-information possibly? Can an expert please chime in??
