An international car festival is being held in Monterey through the weekend bringing a host of luxury sports cars through the area.
Likely you’ve seen colorful Porsche, Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Bugatti, and other interesting looking vehicles that you make you think, “what the heck is that?,” cruising through our local highways.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers in Buellton have noticed too and they’re not letting the drivers off the hook for speeding through our towns.
On Thursday, CHP stated they have received multiple calls about high end vehicles traveling at high speeds through the Buellton area.
“With the assistance of CHP – Coastal Division Air Operations we were able to take the appropriate enforcement actions and slow several of these drivers down,” the agency stated on their Facebook page.
While unconfirmed, it’s possible these vehicles are headed to the annual Monterey Car Week where classic, vintage, and very expensive cars take to the streets, golf courses and world-renowned WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
The ten-day event culminates this Sunday with the highly anticipated Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance located at the iconic fairways of Pebble Beach Golf Links. The luxury car show brings out thousands of drivers, investors, and enthusiasts.

Two of these cars sped past me at a very high rate of speed on northbound 101 near the work zone by Patterson Ave on Thursday morning. They were right on each other’s tails.
At first I thought it was road rage, but seeing this story now makes more sense.
Jealous of Monterey!!!
SBLOCALMESA, I admire your honesty.
Guess these folks forgot to get membership in the CHP 11-99 Foundation (top end level about $100K!).
Scum.
K, but impound their cars and arrest them when they are over 100 mph. Enough with the slap on the wrist speeding tickets, these rich #$&=s are basically unaffected.
Illegal….yes. Dangerous…yes. Reckless….Yes. 1000% total fun….Yesssssssssss!!! Some people really (l mean REALLY) like to drive fast. It has always been this way and will always be this way…..Truth. You want to drive a “souped-up” Zamboni up Interstate 5 through the Central Valley at 7 MPH….go for it…make sure you goggles so you’re eyes don’t dry out at them speeds (Goggles….LOL!!!).
Rich people driving these cars….who knows, but go ahead and assume. Confiscation/impounding is not an option….sorry. Jail….not possible. Possibly a graduated fine….1st citation for say $175; 2nd citation $250; 3rd maybe $375….and so on.
For those who do want to drive fast (and this applies to everyday driving as well): Make sure your tires are inflated to the correct pressure. Make sure your vehicle is in excellent operating order. Wear seat belts/harnesses. Expect the unexpected…animal crossing road, potholes, speed bumps, slow drivers (Zamboni’s on I5), and so on.
Any idiot can drive fast, in almost any vehicle. Drive over the speed limit by enough, and it becomes reckless driving, and you go to jail.
Yes any idiot can drive fast. The difference is these cars can stop fast and handle like they are on rails. So while excessive speed is dangerous, the idiots speeding in Teslas or Toyotas are the real danger. As for those calling the drivers rich scum, I’m sure it costs more to raise a child these days than it does to own one of these cars. Choices…
Yes, the cars are sophisticated, but the drivers aren’t. Rich doesn’t equal freedom to be a scofflaw and endanger lives.
Irregardless of the danger involved, I cannot imagine anyone who’d turn down a chance to get in one of these cars and let it rip!!! Of course, there’s always the Dumbo ride for the conservative and keep-it-safe folks. “I want dry toast with my poached egg.”
Apparently, some people don’t understand civilization. Or, they’re massively stupid and entitled narcissists who have an inflated idea of their prowess.
BABYCAKES, “irregardless” is not a real English word. Simply use regardless. It is way more effective. Yes, I am a grammar nazi.
It may irk, but it is an English word.

Is irregardless a word?: Usage Guide
Irregardless was popularized in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its increasingly widespread spoken use called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that “there is no such word.” There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead.

4:20 – Exactly. Poor English usage.
BIGUGLYSTICK, I used to agree with you regarding irregardless. A number of American dictionaries still seem to agree with you. But Oxford’s dictionary shows it as a legitimate alternative and Macquarie’s actually seems to prefer it as do many Southern Hemisphere English speakers and Indians.
The sociopathic lean in BABY’s comments makes even more sense now….
Because he agrees with you.
Why?
I have some elderly Porsches, and a Tesla. The Porsches, any of them, are much more fun to drive fast. The Tesla is much safer, by a long shot. Don’t know about Toyotas.
Please CHP, don’t just ticket these guys, impound their cars! Factoid for drivers of Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and anyone else: THE STATUTORY MAXIMUM SPEED LIMIT FOR HIGHWAY 154 IS 55 MPH! I speak from experience. The CHP Officer who stopped me for driving too fast in my sedan told me this road is not capable of handling greater speeds safely. As mentioned previously, bears, deer, and other animals traverse this highway. Double yellow lines are painted on this road for a reason. Drivers of these fast exotic imported $250,000+ cars should take their vehicles out to the Utah Salt Flats and blow ’em out. Don’t get your kicks on highway 154.
I hope they throw these guys in jail! SICK of entitled people putting the rest of us in danger! I’ve had enough of people racing on the 101 and the 154. I’ve been in an accident because of this very thing, and the two racers sped off without consequences while the rest of us spun on the freeway and paid the price. BOOK ‘EM! And throw everything you can at them! Make them PAY!
Car ranked in #1 tickets for speeding n 2021 was:
Subaru WRK base price $32,000 #1
Subaru BRZ came in at #5
Subaru Impreza #9
Hyundai products came in at #2 and #10
Kia Stinger came in at #3
Mazda 3 came in at #4
Scion FR-S #6
GMC 1500 Truck #7
Volkwagen GTI #8.
Over 15 out of 100 of all of each of these cars has been ticketed for speeding.
The national average per car model is around 9%
People of low to moderate means seem to do most of the speeding and I don’t want to impound their vehicles
It’s a matter of degree. Think a little bit.
You mean “degree” and in the degree of percentage of speeding tickets? or the “degree” of the speed? or the “degree” of the cost of the vehicle?
Because although we have speed data for the expensive cars you are assuming the less expensive cars were not ticketed for exceeding 100 MPH.
You also are forgetting Motorcycles.
For context I will include a link to the 50 fastest speeding tickets in Texas 2018.
Best excuse was driver of a Mazda pulled over doing 123MPH in a 65 zone who claimed she was speeding because she was late in taking her daughter to her Drivers License appointment

Anecdotes are nice. They still don’t excuse lawlessness.
