On Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 1:02 PM, Naval Base Ventura County Fire Department and Oxnard Fire Department responded to the Family Beach on Naval Base Ventura County, Point Mugu, for a water rescue. A person was seen in the water unresponsive.
When firefighters arrived, they removed the person from the ocean to perform lifesaving measures.
Fire personnel medically evaluated the male and saw he had puncture wounds to his abdomen. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and Naval Base Police were notified of the situation and began the initial investigation.
Sheriff’s Major Crime Investigators, NCIS, and the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene for the investigation. The male was later identified as Jason Jennings, 51 from Los Angeles. Investigators from the Major Crimes Bureau investigate all deaths that are suspicious in nature as a matter of practice. The investigation is still on going.
