By the Office of Rep. Salud Carbajal
Congressman Salud Carbajal (CA-24) spoke at Pioneer Park with Lompoc Mayor Jenelle Osborne to highlight delivering $1,267,5000 in federal funding to support renovations at the park, including the construction of a new playground and baseball fields.
“Parks and green spaces are essential to the quality of life in every community, and I’m proud to be able to fight for this funding for Central Coast families,” said Rep. Carbajal. “These funds are contributing to critical improvements happening all across Lompoc and across the Central Coast, and I’m excited for local residents to enjoy the results of this work in the coming months and years.”
“I want to thank Congressman Carbajal for investing in Lompoc with this funding for Pioneer Park,” said Lompoc Mayor Jenelle Osborne. “His support will make it possible for the City of Lompoc to move forward on a park long overdue for improvements. This park is located near a large number of apartment complexes, so it is the outdoor space used for a variety of purposes, from weekend barbecues to baseball games and birthday parties. Partnerships such as this with our federal officials make a real difference locally.”
Federal funding is projected to cover half of the cost of planned renovations at the park, with the federal funds secured by Carbajal in the 2023 funding bills being supplemented by Community Development Block Grants to the City of Lompoc from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The City will provide the remainder of funding for the $4 million project, which includes a full renovation of the baseball fields and exercise area, as well as a replacement of the public restrooms already completed by the City.
After advocating for this and other community projects over the majority of 2022, Rep. Carbajal successfully secured more than $22 million for 14 projects in the congressional spending package that was signed into law in December.
Projects across Santa Barbara County include expanding U.S. Highway 101 carpool lanes, supporting local food security and clean water operations, and upgrading parks and public spaces in Santa Barbara, Lompoc, and Santa Maria.
The Congressman also recently touted more than $11 million in federal funding for projects across the City of Lompoc from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) as part of a milestone of $500,000,000 in investments for nearly 100 projects up and down the Central Coast.
Carbo’s really showing us lately he’s bringing in tons taxpayer dollars to spend on stuff. Lots of press releases. Park renovation for 1.3M! That’s lucrative for someone.
Yeah, it’s “lucrative” for the thousands of kids and families who will be using and benefiting from “the construction of a new playground and baseball fields.”
Of all the things to complain about your tax dollars being used on, and you’re not the only one here. Infrastructure and recreation are critical to a high quality of life. How on earth could anyone seriously complain about this stuff?
According to Basic the rethugs want our parks to decay.
This MF loves to cry about everything.
Hopefully the $1.3M includes an endowment for ongoing maintenance. Public service union labor (and equipment) to take care of gifted or granted parks is expensive. (Please keep in mind this job below is salary only and does not include benefits, employer contributions, operational expenses, insurance costs etc)

Depends on how much money it is, and whether or not you believe in fiscal responsibility. Some here like the blank check/blank head concept. No thought, just let ‘em keep spending.
Take a look at our deficits, locally, state-wide, and nationally. Sure, it’s easy to look the other way. Someone else’s money? Some of us believe otherwise. Some of us think ahead. And don’t wait for a bailout. No one’s crying though. That’s not it at all.
Huh Alex? “Fake concern”? No. It’s a real thing dude. I know you can read. Fiscal responsibility? Money doesn’t grow on trees. You must’ve been taught that as a kid. Nevermind, you disagree, and I get it.
Yeah, Basic, and you will definitely not be digging in to any of those questions, so keep your fake concern about fiscal responsibility to yourself.
All basic does is cry and moan. Has no real thoughts on any issue other than to complain. Drank the outrage Kool-Aid. Has no complaints about republican oligarchs that stole Covid relief money – but damn, that park.
This is the United States. Our infrastructure sucks. Our healthcare system sucks. Our education sucks. Whenever someone tries to spend money on those things, the Cons (yes, you are conservative) start screaming about their tax dollars. That’s not “fiscal responsibility,” that’s just crying. We NEED those things to improve our quality of life, for EVERYONE, not just the rich. Our country needs to reflect our greatness in our peoples’ happiness and health.
Sac, yep, and let’s just really make sure that the corporations and ultra wealthy pay a lower tax rate than any middle class person so that those same middle class people can scream and cry about money being spent on basic infrastructure and services.
Kids aren’t taught macroeconomics, and those (lookin’ at you and other RWers) who suffer from arrested development never do learn it.
Good win for Lompoc , the kids and youth baseball players in that immediate neighborhood. Brand new baseball fields and new playground equipment will be so great for them. Google “Pioneer Park Lompoc” click on “see outside” on your right. Do a 180 on google maps street view and go down alley directly in front of you. Have a look around and see what some of the conditions in that neighborhood look like. Good for them!
I live in the unincorporated Lompoc area. I took my children to Pioneer Park because we didn’t have a good park out here. 30 years later, we still don’t have a good children’s park out here. Plans are all made for a tot lot in a good central location and we can’t get the funding, after 10 years of trying.
