By the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office
Santa Barbara County District Attorney John T. Savrnoch is pleased to forward the following press release issued by Governor Gavin Newsom announcing that Joyce E. Dudley, of Santa Barbara, has been appointed to the Peace Officer Standards Accountability Advisory Board:
Dudley was Chair of the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training from 2016 to 2022 and a member there from 2013 to 2022. Dudley served as District Attorney of Santa Barbara County from 2010 to 2022. She was a Deputy District Attorney in the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office from 1990 to 2010. She was Director of Child Development Programs at the Community Action Commission of the County of Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1988 and Child Development Director at the Children’s Home Society of California from 1979 to 1984. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education from Antioch University, a Master of Arts degree in Education from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Juris Doctor degree from the Santa Barbara College of Law. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $350 per diem. Dudley is a Democrat.
District Attorney John T. Savrnoch stated, “I am proud to have had the opportunity to work with Joyce Dudley. This appointment shows that even in retirement, Joyce remains dedicated to public safety, to the women and men of law enforcement, and to ensuring that California has the best trained and most ethical peace officers in the country.”
She was absolutely awful, ran her department like a thug.
Alex, You say similar things every time her name appears. You never explain what you’re referring to, give examples, or evidence. Then you say you can’t do so. Give up some info or just give up, put up or be quiet.
Alex, what don’t you like about her? Do you like Newsom?
BASIC – why do you always have to drag Newsom into every thread? What does he have to do with this?
Yeah Basic! WHY do you have to drag Newsom into every thread (aside form him being our governor and having a hand in most of the issues) and what does he have to do with this (aside from it being a press release directly from Governor Newsom, aside from Gov. Newsom appointing Dudley to the position, and aside form them sharing similar political philosophies as stated in the press release) ?
“(aside form him being our governor and having a hand in most of the issues)” – Yet, during Trump’s presidency, if anyone brought him up, you’d shriek and howl about TDS and why are we blaming him for everything?! Rules for thee, remember? Ridiculous.
Oh lookee here…. and he’s off! Choo choo! The train is about to derail! LOL
Thank you for leaving Santa Barbara in total ruins. Must of learned from Newsom leaving SF.
I have two objections to her appointment to POST. First of all, I don’t believe that she is fair minded when it comes to alleged misconduct by police officers; did she ever follow up with legal charges against any sheriff’s department personnel during her tenure? not once, to my recollection.
Secondly, the manner in which she announced at the very last minute that she wouldn’t run for re-election and endorsed her second-in-command was an affront to the democratic process and quite manipulative. While Savrnoch may have been the best candidate, she basically handed the job to him, shutting voters out of having an open debate and competition for the position. It was underhanded and anti-democratic.
