Highway 154 is closed in both directions as emergency personnel respond to a vehicle that crashed 100 feet over the side of the roadway.
At 1:38 p.m. Monday, Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to the 1700 block of Highway 154 for a reported traffic collision.
Crews discovered it was a single vehicle incident and a Volvo sedan had crashed approximately 100 feet over the side of the highway.
A rope system was initiated to bring two adult females trapped in the vehicle up to the roadside for medical assessment.
Highway 154 temporarily closed in both directions. It reopened around 3:45 p.m.

Over the side about 100 yards down.
Hard closure.
SO was first in. 3 engines on the scene, copter 3 responding.
Medic 3 delayed at the airport, closure at San Marcos.
CHP taking over N San Marcos closure, corrected address is 1743 Hwy 154.
Cancelling copter, technical rescue for short period. Minor or non injury.
West bound closed at Cathedral Oaks.
I saw Search & Rescue going up the pass with lights and sirens, looks like they still have the 154 closed for the incident and now a tour bus stuck somewhere near there trying to turn around.
Anybody have any updates on if it’s still closed ?
As of 3:30 yes still closed, but Caltrans states hopes to reopen soon.
Also, a tour bus is stuck on San Marcos Rd at the switchback near Highway 154 as well, causing backup.
