The driver of a fatal vehicle crash on Cathedral Oaks last month has died from his injuries, reports the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
On April 20, 2023, at approximately 11:01 P.M., a white Ford pickup struck a tree on the westbound side of Cathedral Oaks Road, west of North Kellog Avenue, near Goleta.
A passenger, a 22 year old male later identified as Christopher James Roulo, sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The driver, 18-year-old Daniel Velez-Valerio, and a second passenger, 22-year-old Patrick J. Marasciullo, both sustained major injuries including but not limited to multiple lacerations and severe burns to several areas of their bodies. They were transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.
Prior to his death, CHP had arrested Velez-Valerio on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.
Velez-Valerio had graduated from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta in 2022.
