Mother’s Day Specials?

By an edhat reader

I’m looking to take my elderly mother out for a nice meal this weekend.

Are there any suggestions for local restaurants that have special offerings?

  1. My advice is to take your mother to THEEEE most expensive/fancy-Nancy place you can afford OR simply ask here where she’d like to go. If you want to make Mother’s Day about your mother, then let it be about your mother and not some sort of cookie-cutter joint she may or may not want to go to. A few years ago I told my widowed sister that I would take her (and three kids) to ANY place she wanted to go….ANY place. She quickly answered, “Chick-fil-A!” I was a bit surprised as she is kind of a foodie, and I said, “How about Opal, Jane, The Stone House/Harry’s/Brophy’s/Chuck’s?” Her response was, “I don’t need fancy and we can take it to the beach and have a picnic. That’s what I want to do unless YOU want to go to Opal/Jane/Brophy’e……” She and her kids (and me) had a wonderful sunny afternoon at Hammond’s….priceless!
Again, make it about your Mother….

  2. My mom barely treats herself to nice things (Depression-era mindset!) but I know she enjoys nice things. So the kids always treat her on the holidays, birthday, and mothers day. Thank you for the tips, I’m going to reach out to the Encanto as its one of her favorite places, she loves the view.
And I second the treats from Andersen’s.
