Possible gang activity, juveniles kicking vehicles in the 1000 block of De La Vina Street on Tuesday evening.
At around 6 PM There was a scanner report of juveniles kicking vehicles and possibly fighting on that 1000 block of del Vienna street in Santa Barbara.
6:07 pm: Westbound on Figueroa. Headed toward state street.
6:09 pm: Parking lot at Ralph’s.
6:45 pm One of the subjects was detained at or near the Modern Laundry. His shoe print apparently matches that of a shoe print on a vehicle that was kicked earlier.
Where are the parents?
Seriously, make parents pay damage & do community service along with the kids.

SBLETSGET – so many so quick to blame parents for everything. Do you follow your kids around while they’re out with their friends? Folks, older kids are not always under surveillance by their parents, nor should they be. It’s easy to always blame the parents, but kids can come from loving and protective homes and still end up getting into mischief. Sometimes, kids do dumb and destructive things. Let the cops and the parents handle the punishment, but we can’t just blame parents for everything their kids do the second they walk out the door.

Where are the parents? Perhaps they are out working to support exorbitant rent and mortgage prices. End stage capitalism.
SAIL – hitting children as “discipline” has been proven ineffective time and again. Now, we also have these new age parents on the other end of the spectrum who let their kids do anything they want, where “No” is considered “abusive.” Hitting doesn’t work, nor does total lack of discipline. The sweet spot on the spectrum should be where parents are able to have open conversations with their kids, treat them with respect and dignity, while maintaining and enforcing rules of behavior. Kids I grew up with who were smacked, slapped, belted, are all rotten adults now. Kids I’ve seen grow up with my kids who never once were told “no,” are now spoiled and disrespectful teens.
A substantial part of the problem is lack of discipline and lack of parenting. Civility has declined every since we stopped educating by using the connection from butt to brain!!
There wa a fight near the tenis courts at Santa Barbara High School earlier that day. (Tues. 05/16/23) The fight was bad enough that the school admins called SBPD. I wonder if it was some of same kids??

Geo – I know better that to “Correct your grammer”, but shouldn’t there be a (?) after the word figuroa? It’s seems as if it’s a question: “6:07 What’s bound figuroa. Headed toward state street.”

Spell check bites me again… Punctuation was what I was supposed to type (typo?).
It should actually be in quotes as the Officer said “[Headed} Westbound on Figueroa, headed toward State Street.” As it appears he had a visual and saw the group moving East on Figueroa.
True. Some of these kids are going to screw up whether rich, poor, white, or brown. I think it’s always been that way. That said, there are a LOT of enabling and entitled parents here in SB.
These gang kids live in a resort town. They would sh-t themselves if they went up against LA gangs. Grow up and fight the good fight and know how lucky you are to live in this area.
