To The Driver Who Passed Me on Foothill in San Roque Going +60mph at a Double Yellow

By an edhat reader

At 6:20 am this morning I was westbound on Foothill probably near Ontare, and a driver going at an incredibly excessive speed passed me at a double yellow line. They were going at least 60mph, perhaps 70mph.

At that hour there are walkers, cyclists, and people pulling out of driveways who are not expecting wrong way reckless drivers like you who passed me. You were going so fast that no one could react in time to avoid a collision once you got back in the proper lane.

Slow down. Don’t hit a kid, pedestrian, cyclist, T-bone a car, or wrap yourself around a tree.

I was going the speed limit. Why be so reckless? Don’t shorten someone else’s life.

  1. How about how fast (I mean slow) you were going?
It’s reckless when people drive slower than they should and then think those that drive accordingly are the criminals.
Get off the road if you can’t drive it at the normal speed. If you aren’t going 40 on a normal day (no roadwork, accidents etc.) then I’ll wait for the double lanes.
If, and this happens a lot, probably as you were doing, you do less than 30 I and other drivers will straight up go around.
We don’t have time for your antics and “I need to go safe and slow”

    • The speed limit is 35mph on Foothill. I was doing about 40mph which is what most people drive there. This person was going considerably faster, like bat out of hell faster. It would be like someone doing 60-70mph on Hollister or State. Absolutely reckless and dangerous.
Whoever that driver was their behavior will catch up with them some day.

    • SBStoner: I agree with you in part as Foothill is also a state highway, and there certainly are a bunch of “slowpokes” slowly meandering without a care in the world. People should focus on driving “at speed” unless there’s some sort of problem, otherwise other folks are simply going to whizz by them. Sometimes the slowpokes are driving slow for a reason, such as poor eyesight, a vehicle with mechanical issues, and any number of potential reasons. There is a possibility that the driver who reportedly driving so fast could have been in an unmarked LE vehicle or someone with a dire emergency on their way to the emergency room. I simply don’t know….but could have been a legitimate reason for the “excessive” speed. The bottom line though is that no one was actually injured…thank goodness!

  2. Why so much negativity and blaming the poster? They did say they were going the speed limit. I drive at or above the speed limit and am angry ar the cars that tailgate me. I don’t drive in the fast/passing lane unless I’m passing, and I agree there are jerks on the road that only think of themselves.
