  1. THANK GOODNESS they are leaving. IV will be quiet again for the summer now. Sorry to say the students have become a pain when they’re here nine months out of the year.
Special thanks to our local hotels who price gouge and rip off our visitors this weekend. The Goleta Morel6 was charging $439 a night, the Residence Inn $750 and the Courtyard $654 a night! Absurd. Not that their regular summer rates are much better……these prices are why a lot of people can’t afford and won’t be taking vacations this summer. The local hoteliers should be ashamed.

  2. I lived here for 45 years and yeah, the university was there. The kids were a heck of a lot more well behaved and the size of campus was manageable. Now it’s just a mess of foreign students, walking in front of our driveways, not looking up from their bloody iPhones and almost getting run over, dressing like tramps, and getting so wasted that all we hear on Friday and Saturday nights are ambulances and fire trucks called to dispense Narcan because they’re frickin overdosed. So yeah, I knew ucsb was there. It’s just bunk that it turned into what it is

  3. Congratulations to the new graduates. May they find happiness in their new life outside of the education system. The good thing is that there are plenty of good-paying jobs out there if one is willing to start “at the bottom.” Of course, not everyone will have to start at the bottom depending on what their degree is in, for example computing/engineering. Hopefully, those who have degrees such as philosophy, art, and poetry will find success as well in the professional world.
As far as what local hotels are charging, it appears that all Goleta hotels are completely booked. That means that there are customers who are willing to pay to stay in those hotels. Motel 6 in Buellton is $397 tonight (“Only 6 rooms left!”), but n-e-x-t weekend it’s only $283 (“Only 8 rooms left!”). By comparison, Motel 6 in Bakersfield is $70 tonight (“Only 2 rooms left!”). Supply and demand….simple as that.

  4. My mum graduated from Ucsb when the bank burnt lol. She couldn’t walk the stage that year due to national guard and school shut down. But she did get to walk the stage in 2013 after asking if she could sighting the above cause , it was an amazing experience for all of us lots of cheering . Yes IV has always been a party rebellion place.

  5. Yup supply and demand. If people weren’t so he’ll bent on taking a vacation….and are will to pay ANYTHING maybe we could get back to everyone being able to afford a little more.
At least then they burnt down the bank they had some legitimate reasons to get pissed off and do it. In Feb 1970 they were pissed with the war. Nixon was antagonistic towards students. The bank was a symbol of capitalism and “establishment” it opened up a lot of people eyes….oh my horrible things happening in santa barbsra where nothing wrong like this would ever happen. Bill!

  6. I’d also like to point out, 6 residents of Friendship Manor were injured to the point of needing hospital admission and then PT for injury recovery. They were hit by bikes traveling in the wrong direction, on the sidewalk, parking their abandoned Byrd Electric bikes on sidewalks and having the elderly trip and fall. I don’t really give a xxxx what anyone says. I despise the students they are careless and some… it amazes me how they even got into ucsb.
