An escaped burn pile was the cause of a 14 acre brush fire in the Santa Ynez Valley on Thursday.
At 1:34 p.m. Thursday, Santa Barbara County fire crews responded to the 3900 block of Mission Drive. Air support was also requested to help contain the blaze.
The fire’s forward progress was halted at 2:10 p.m. GPS survey mapped the fire at 14.25 acres and it appeared to be mostly isolated to a field of grass, said Captain Scott Safechuck.
Santa Barbara County Fire Investigators stated the fire was caused by an escaped burn pile. A citation was issued.
There were no structures threatened. Crews will remain on scene to finalize containment and mop-up.

Santa Barbara County firefighters on the scene of a one-to-two acre brush fire in Santa Ynez.
At 1:34 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to the 3900 block of Mission Drive. Air support was requested to help contain the blaze.
Captain Scott Safechuck states “good progress” is being made with fire suppression tactics.
