Brush Fire Threatens Home

Source: Santa Barbara County Fire Department

At 12:03 hours today Santa Barbara City fire dispatch was notified of a vegetation fire located at 874 W. Mountain Drive. Multiple resources from Santa Barbara City, Montecito, U.S. Forest Service and Santa Barbara County Fire Departments responded to the scene. They discovered a half acre brush fire at the rear of the property in very steep terrain that was an immediate threat to the residence.

Quick and aggressive techniques by fire personal utilizing both hand tools and hose lines contained the fire to the hillside with no damage reported to the structure. There were no reports of injuries to either firefighters or civilians that were on scene.

A fire investigator responded to the scene and determined that the fire was accidental and the cause was due to landscaping operations taking place on the property.

The City Fire Department would like to remind its citizens that motor driven gardening equipment is best utilized in the morning hours before the heat of the day. The fuel in our wildland area is rapidly drying and temperatures are starting to rise.
