Four Lompoc residents are in custody at the Santa Barbara County Jail following a strong arm robbery and stabbing in Isla Vista early this morning, May 28, 2017, that occurred within about an hour of each other. The first crime occurred at approximately 12:50 a.m. when officers and deputies assigned to the Isla Vista Foot Patrol station came across a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred in the area of Pardall Road and Camino Pescadero. The victim, a 28-year-old male from Santa Barbara, was reportedly walking when he was assaulted and robbed by a male suspect who was later identified as being 22-year-old Ignacio Sanchez Reyes of Lompoc. The victim sustained injuries requiring transportation, via ambulance, to the hospital.
Sheriff’s deputies and UCPD officers along with a Sheriff’s K-9 team began immediately searching for Reyes. A short time later, the K-9 team located three males from Lompoc, who were with Reyes earlier in the evening, but the suspect was not with his group. The K-9 team continued searching and subsequently located Reyes in the 6500 block of Madrid Road. He fled on foot but was apprehended by on officer in the 900 block of Camino Pescadero and detained at gunpoint. Reyes was arrested for robbery and booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail.
About an hour later, at 2:20 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies and UCPD officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 6500 block of Del Playa Drive. Upon arrival, a 21-year-old Isla Vista male resident was located at the scene and found to be suffering from a stab wound. The victim was treated by Santa Barbara County Fire Department and AMR paramedics and then transported to a local hospital.
A description of the three male suspects involved in the stabbing were provided to law enforcement. The suspects were located by UCPD officers a short time later in the area of Camino Pescadero and Picasso Road and they were detained at gunpoint. The suspects were identified as being 21-year-old Javier Rodriguez-Anguiano, 21-year-old Francisco Guzman and 20-year-old Juan Raul Garibay Arredondo, all from Lompoc. Further investigation linked the three suspects to the stabbing and also identified them as being the group associated with the strong-arm robbery suspect. All three were booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon.
