Santa Barbara City CLL Classes Restructured

 

Santa Barbara City College is pleased to proceed with a reorganization of our existing noncredit and fee-based programs to better meet the needs of our community. These programs are being restructured under the umbrella of The School of Extended Learning (Extended Learning). 

 

Extended Learning will absorb all of our existing noncredit programs, fee-based community service courses offered through the Center for Lifelong Learning, and contract education. 

“We are committed to honoring the rich, robust history of community education SBCC supported, and continues to support. With the new School of Extended Learning, we are looking to the future – by establishing a permanent structure that can grow and meet the needs of many different populations in our community,” said President Beebe. 

 

The School of Extended Learning will grow its offerings of tuition-free career and life skills courses beginning Fall 2017. The College will offer over 250 sections as part of Extended Learning courses this Fall, with registration opening July 7. SBCC plans to add more courses for the following semester and continue to expand the tuition-free extended learning options available to our community. 

The College will provide support to community members wishing to register for new tuition-free courses. A video tutorial will be available and hands-on registration workshops will be offered.  

 

 

In order to ensure a successful rollout of Extended Learning, beginning Fall 2017, Dean Melissa Moreno, who has overseen noncredit programs, will step in as interim Vice President for the School of Extended Learning through the 2017-2018 Academic year. 

 

Dr. Moreno brings 10 years’ SBCC experience as an innovative and entrepreneurial leader, first as founder of the Scheinfeld Center and the last three years as a Dean overseeing noncredit programs, developing the Career Skills Institute and overseeing new Adult Education Block Grant initiatives. She is already hitting the ground running with the creation of a strategic plan for growth, reorganization and transformation to ensure robust and leading edge extended learning options that meet community needs.
