Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) crews have stopped the forward progress of a 200-250 acre brush fire in the Cuyama Valley.
At 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, SBCFD responded with the Los Padres National Forest Service to a report of a vegetation fire. It started near Cebrian Ave and Perkins Road in the Cuyama Valley, just south of Cuyama. Crews found a fast moving fire that was spotting ahead of itself and spreading rapidly in an easterly direction with 20mph winds, reported Captain Dave Zaniboni.
As of 5:15 p.m., the fire was reportedly at 200-250 acres and forward progress has stopped.
Two air tankers and one helicopter were on scene making air drops to help halt progress. The fire burned into some agricultural fields which helped contain the spread, said Zaniboni.
Initially, there were residential structures threatened on Cebrian Ave, but those are now safe. Containment numbers are not yet available and crews will remain on scene.
Captain Zaniboni stated there is no official cause of this fire, but did confirm there were downed power lines in the area.
