Santa Barbara Local Swims Across the Channel For Clean Water!

By Jason Hassanieh, Edhat Staff

Rachel G. Horn of Santa Barbara will take on the 19 mile swim across the channel to support clean water and raise awareness on ocean pollution.

Rachel did her first channel swim last year, from Anacapa Island to Oxnard, and immediately fell in love with the sport. She now wants to attempt an even longer swim to see what she’s capable of — and to support a great cause.

“Each time I’ve found an organization that I want to support… I chose SB Channelkeeper because I want to support an organization that helps educate people and protects the water that we spend all our free time in here in Santa Barbara. I love this water.”

There’s a good chance she’ll be in the water for 12 to 14 hours. This swim, set for September 19, will require extreme levels of both physical and mental endurance. We’re all rooting for you Rachel!

Santa Barbara Channelkeeper made this short video to help reach their $10,000 goal to support clean water in our community.
