Flood Advisory for Burn Areas

5:00 p.m. September 10, 2017 

* Flash Flood Warning for… North central Santa Barbara County in southwestern California including the Alamo Burn Area…

* Until 700 PM PDT

* At 355 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms producing heavy downpours near Figueroa mountain, moving rapidly northwestward towards the Alamo Burn Area and highway 166. Flash flooding and debris flows will likely begin shortly.

* Some locations that will likely experience flooding include…the Alamo Burn Area, Figueroa Mountain, and Highway 166.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

 Flood Advisory for…Santa Barbara County in southwestern California…

…Including the Whittier and Sherpa burn areas… 

* Until 130 AM PDT Monday 

* At 1025 PM PDT, Doppler radar indicated widespread showers and thunderstorms across most of Santa Barbara County, with heavy downpours at times. The showers and storms were moving west at about 40 mph. The fast speed of the showers was generally keeping heavy downpours brief in nature, but storms will continue to train over the area through 130 AM PDT Monday. Widespread ponding of water is expected on area roadways with local flooding of low lying areas and intersections. In addition, minor mud and debris flows are possible in and below the Whittier and Sherpa burn 
areas. 

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Santa Barbara…Lompoc…Montecito...Santa Ynez…Vandenberg
Air Force Base…Isla Vista…Goleta…Buellton…and the 
Whittier and Sherpa burn areas.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
