Scanner Reports 10-2-17

Another Day, another Monday. On FRYday, I had to go out and do a few things and buy some food. I took a shower, put on my jeans, socks, shoes, my MILPAS UNDERPANTS! and my Walter Payton Chicago Bears Official NFL football jersey. No one warned me about the new National Dress Code; nothing NFL or else! I found out about it though by some of the looks I got by the public. I really had no idea what I was in for. I really thought that most people living or working in Santa Barbara were above this insane conflict the president is having with the National Football League. I ‘m not as much a fan of football as I am Walter “Sweetness” Payton, who played for the Chicago Bears in the 70’s and 80’s and passed away way too young. Maybe some of the people that treated me strangely were from Wisconsin and are Green Bay fans who saw their team slaughter the Bears the night before on Thursday night football. While their cheese head team won in one way, the Bears put a couple of their players out of commission. I then made the comment on Facebook “Well if you can’t beat them…beat the shit out of them. To which someone posted, “Cheap Shot Roger.” And that made me feel better for having watched most of my team get their butts kicked.

In my day, when people played sports, they usually got the crap knocked out of them. Nobody cried then, just sayin. My jaw still hurts from a Hippies vs the Cops basketball game back in Hammond in the 70’s when a rookie punched me when I was shooting a basket.  On Friday while standing in the bank, one fella was talking to another fella about his wife becoming ill after eating a piece of fruit in a store. I had something from the same store and made a comment. The victim’s husband looked at my NFL Shirt and gave me a dirty look, and they both ignored me. It made me laugh. I went to Rite Aid after that. My friend Andrew gave me little grief, it was friendly. The security guard was a big Walter Payton fan and loved the shirt. On to Trader Joes.  For the most part, everyone was friendly. A few white males gave me weird looks, but only one look was slightly hostile. That guy was about 7 feet tall and I was prepared to try and run if I had to.

I left the store and ran into my friend Walter, whose name I thought was Bob. He doesn’t even look like a Walter, he looks more like a Bob. Maybe that is why I call him Bob, but Walter is his name. Maybe I have brain damage from hitting my head on Trader Joes’ floor when I fell down a couple months ago, and that is why I call him Bob. I don’t know, but I know Walter as Bob and I’m Roger, so he is Bob, and that’s that! I ran into Walter or Bob on the way out and asked him if I could borrow an old Trader Joes cart because I had a lot of things and could not carry them with my bad back and he gave me permission to take a cart if I bought it back. I said thank you and went on my way. I found a cart, put my stuff in it, and headed for the parking lot exit. Before I could get 20 feet, I was stopped by a security guard who told me I could not take the cart. I said, “I have permission from Bob.” He said, “No you don’t.” I said, “Yes I do”, and added “Let’s go into the store and find Bob and he will tell you he gave me permission to take the cart and bring it back when I’m done using it.” He said, “No, you’re not going into the store, you cannot take the cart.”  I stopped and turned and for a second thought of punching this guy before I headed to the store with him following. I was very angry. I headed straight for the managers desk. There was a heavy set woman there, and another manager there. The woman looked directly at my shirt then into my face giving me a weird look, not entirely hostile. But whatever I had to say was not going to be taken seriously that is pretty much how it went. I told them about my bad back and asked to see Bob. The woman said, in a smart ass tone, “There is no Bob working here.” The other guy said, “Sounds like Walter.”  “I know him as Bob, but okay, he gave me permission to use the cart as long as I bought it back.” I got permission from the manager to take the cart. The jerk security guard and woman were still chatting when I left. It’s not worth repeating what they said, stupid judgmental crap. I was very angry at them. You try and understand other people’s positions, but when they become jerks, any positive communication pretty much goes down the drain.

I also went into the pet store there and got weird looks from the people working there, as if they did not want to help me. I bought some things anyway. I would not have thought anything of it had I been treated with respect, but some people looked as if they were ashamed. Next week I’ll be walking around wearing my official NFL San Francisco 49ers shirt.
