At approximately 9:30 p.m. last night, October 1, 2017, the body of a deceased female was located in the Santa Maria Riverbed. The Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating her death as suspicious. The Sheriff’s Forensics Unit spent the day processing the scene. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team assisted in searching the area for evidence.
The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office is in the process of making a positive identification. No additional information will be released at this time regarding this incident due to the active investigation and until next of kin is notified.
