The Public Health Department Environmental Health Services division (EHS) has issued a closure order for restaurants, markets, and other food facilities that are affected by the Boil Water Notice. These include areas served by the Montecito Water District, specifically Montecito and Summerland.
The water in Carpinteria and Santa Barbara and all other communities outside of the Montecito Water District is safe and within State and Federal guidelines and standards.
Food facilities that are subject to the Boil Water Notice but have electrical power (either provided through the grid or by generator) may remain open to sell unopened commercially prepackaged foods only, but may not prepare, handle, or serve any open foods, including fresh produce, until the Boil Water Notice is lifted. However, any food facilities in the Public Safety Exclusion Zone may not conduct any type of business and are to remain closed until further notice.
Additional information on steps to take to safely re-open after the Boil Water Notice is lifted will be provided to affected facilities by Environmental Health Services.

BOIL YOUR WATER DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST.
Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking and food preparation until further notice. This is the preferred method to assure that the water is safe to drink.
- An alternative method of disinfection for residents that are not able to boil their water is to use fresh, unscented, liquid household bleach. To do so, add 8 drops (or 1/8 teaspoon) of bleach per gallon of clear water or 16 drops (or 1/4 teaspoon) per gallon of cloudy water, mix thoroughly, and allow it to stand for 30 minutes before using. A chlorine-like taste and odor will result from this disinfection procedure and is an indication that adequate disinfection has taken place.
- Water disinfection tablets may also be used by following the manufacturer’s instructions.
Due to the recent Flash Flood events, the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water in conjunction with the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department, and the Montecito Water District are advising residents of Montecito and Summerland to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution.

Aviso de hervir agua
