By Roger the Scanner Guy
A friend on Facebook mentioned that some homeless folks sleep near the railroad tracks between Olive Mill Road to the Zoo and he was concerned that some might have been swept up by the mudslide. I had thought that when I had begun to hear of bodies found. My friend hadn’t been homeless a long time and not listening to the scanner like I do, he would not know that there are homeless folks who sleep deeper in Montecito. I hear calls involving people a couple times a week of suspicious subjects walking around Montecito, most I believe to be homeless folks looking for a place to camp. I don’t always write down the calls because I am usually done doing the reports later in the evening, however, I usually monitor the scanner even when I’m doing something else.
Another friend on Facebook mentioned that the Sheriff’s department warned all of the homeless of the storm and possible danger. I hope they all heeded the warnings and moved out of the area but some may not have. Another thing is after the storm back in 1995 that flooded areas near the creeks in my old Hood, people were digging out and hiring people to dig out the areas around their homes. I knew a lot of the workers and they found many valuable items: jewelry, money, coin collections, for those who have lost their homes and things important to them later on might want to post ads for lost items in the small chance those items might be found. I am sure that many things will be found in the mud as I remember some of the items found then.
