Like everyone we know, our focus has been on the Thomas Fire and subsequent flooding. So on our flight Friday evening it was startling to see everything else trending into beautiful greens. Areas not scorched by Thomas or devastated by debris were trending into beautiful greens. It was as if our collective trauma were obscured by a rainbow. The Cachuma campground peninsula boasted rich shades of blue and green with shortened boat ramps. The eastern lake shore had sprung back to life, forgetful of the drought that peaked just weeks ago. The water inlet tower no longer stands alone in a crusted lake bed. The golf course just upstream looks almost normal. The dam could no longer pass as a raised roadway across a shallow pond. Even if we don’t get any more rain, there’s a blush of green reminiscent of bygone Springtime in paradise.
