ANSWER

In 2009, a memorial was established to honor the aviators and squadrons that trained at the Santa Barbara airport during World War II. The monument, a miniature version of the Washington Monument in black granite, bears the names of local aviators who died in WWII.

In the early 1900’s the Goleta Slough housed a small airstrip that eventually became a municipal airport, thanks to Marines who moved in to build up the area during WWII. Read a full history by Tom Modugno at GoletaHistory.com.

The exact address is a bit hard to find, so we accepted most answers that generally described it’s location: WWII memorial near the airport, near long-term parking, near the SBA Vista overlook, and even 500 James Fowler Road.
