An elderly man safely walked away from a vehicle collision on Highway 154 near Windy Gap on Tuesday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded at 12:19 p.m. and found a vehicle approximately 10 feet over the side of the roadway while traveling westbound. The driver, an 87-year-old male did not suffer any injuries, reports SBCFD Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.

The Los Padres National Forest Service and AMR ambulance assisted on scene. California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.

An edhat reader drove by at the time of this incident and reportedly saw a man on his cell phone with another man near the Highway’s railing that appeared to be indented as if a car had driven through it. “As I kept driving, a load of emergency personnel was speeding up that way. The crash took place right past San Marcos road going down,” reported the edhat reader.

  1. Edhat, you could do us all a solid, and instead of starting an accident report with, an “elderly” man, please just say, a “driver”. I haven’t seen, a “middle aged” woman, or a “millennial” man or a “generation x”, or “baby boomer”.

  2. Will when I report, I state what I hear the police say and they usually comment on the age of a driver I hear them say elderly all the time. It’s when they say that many of whom they consider to be elderly that pisses me off, many are younger than me…lol
