On May 1, 2018, at about 1452 hours, Officers from the Santa Maria Police Department, along with Fire and Medical personnel, were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of W. El Camino Street to a report of an infant not breathing. Sgt. Nathan Totorica and Officer Robert Prescott were first to arrive on scene. Officer Prescott immediately located the infant and confirmed the baby was not breathing. Officer Prescott took hold of the baby and provided it with rescue breaths.

A short time later, Sgt. Totorica provided Officer Prescott with relief and administered rescue breaths as well. Once Santa Maria Fire and AMR personnel arrived, they assumed lifesaving efforts. The baby was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
