Does anyone know of a fumigation company or an effective way to treat furniture that looks like it may house beetles? There is some sawdust under our dresser and after some research it seems like that would be from beetles and not termites. Borax apparently only treats surfaces. Does anyone have experience with this problem or with a fumigation company that has experience with treating furniture?
If you know of someone who is tenting/fumigating their house, put it inside the building when they fumigate. This works well. Powder post beetle can destroy furniture and also can spread. You also may be able to bag the furniture in plastic and “bug bomb” it, but do this outdoors or in a well ventilated garage. The former suggestion is the best.
We had boring bugs that weren’t termites in a few hardwood floor boards. I used a pyrethrin based insecticide and saturated the holes, then covered with tape for a while to encapsulate, then cleaned the area thoroughly at a later date. With this type of infestation, it does not pay to go “holistic” while your wood is destroyed (now with the lovely scent of whatever natural remedy you googled). Nuke em from orbit.
