Staples will close their large downtown Santa Barbara location on State Street by July 20, reports John Palminteri of KEYT News.
At 410 State Street near the corner of Gutierrez Street, the 17,000 square foot location did not renew its lease. Although there currently isn’t a new tenant for the space, the location does offer a good amount of parking, opposed to other retail spaces. 77 spaces to be exact, in a highly desirable area where parking is limited.
The Staples location in the Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta will remain open.
There are several empty storefronts in the lower section of State Street. The longtime vacant storefront next door to Staples just gained a new tenant, Habitat Home & Garden.
New businesses are expected to open in the area including Mollie’s Italian restaurant, Night Lizard Brewing, Industrial Ale, and Creamistry ice cream.
Same here recently and therein is a clue as to why they are leaving. Back in the day…20 years ago before Amazon it was hard to find parking there, they even had an attendant as I recall for awhile.
