Former Fifth District Supervisor, Thomas Urbanske, Passes Away

Source: County of Santa Barbara

It is with great sadness that the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors learned of the passing of former Supervisor Thomas Urbanske. Those who worked with Tom described him as a dedicated public servant who displayed kindness and empathy.

Mr. Urbanske was a city council member and an educator in Santa Maria before he served two terms as Fifth District Supervisor from 1995 to 2002. Steve Lavagnino, who currently serves the Fifth District, said this about his predecessor, “Tom was way ahead of his time. He was committed to improving the community and creating opportunities to address the needs of the homeless, mentally ill and veterans. I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and the constituents he served with grace and compassion.”

Former Supervisor Urbanske will be missed by all those who worked with him and those he served. Supervisors and County staff alike send thoughts and deepest sympathies to his family at this time.
