The Santa Barbara Youth Council is partnering with Future Leaders of America and PAL Youth Leadership groups to host a Mayoral Candidates Forum on Monday, October 16th at the Louise Lowry Davis Center, located at 1232 De la Vina Street.
The evening will start with a Meet & Greet with the candidates at 5:30 pm and the Forum promptly starting at 6pm. All City Council candidates are invited to address the audience at the beginning of the forum to introduce themselves and make a statement. Then the Mayoral Candidates will address questions moderated by ASB Presidents representing Dos Pueblos High School, Santa Barbara High School and San Marcos High School. Our Facilitator for the evening will be Scott Guttentag, Counselor from Dos Pueblos High School.
The Santa Barbara Youth Council has hosted Candidates Forums for the past 15 years with hundreds in attendance and an emphasis on issues affecting teens and young voters in the city of Santa Barbara, like Assembly Constitutional Amendment 10, which would lower the voting age from 18 to 17 years of age.
The event is open to the general public with questions addressing issues that affect youth, including homelessness, sustainability and environmental. The forum will open up to questions from the audience. Free parking and refreshments,in addition to extra credit for students.
