Santa Barbara Public Library Trainings to Aid in Finding Funding for Nonprofits and Individuals
Santa Barbara is home to a large number of nonprofits, social service agencies, cultural groups, and individuals that provide needed resources to the community. The Santa Barbara Public Library is offering two workshops to support these groups and people in finding the funding they need to continue in their work.
The first workshop, for non-profits only, is an introduction to the Foundation Center’s new Foundation Directory Online. Participants will learn how to use the new Foundation Directory Online interface to research funding opportunities through thousands of grant makers. Registration for the Thursday, October 19, 10-11am event is now open.
Following this will be a workshop on Tuesday, October 24, 10-11am for individuals seeking funding opportunities. This workshop will walk through the interface for Foundation Grants to Individuals Online. Individuals can register online.
Both Foundation Directory Online and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online take advantage of Foundation Center’s database of over 140,000 U.S. foundations and over 2 million grants. These online interfaces allow for searching the most up-to-date and complete information on funder and grant information across fields such as area of interest, geographic focus, type of recipient, amount funded, and application information. The workshops will teach how to use the various search fields, targeted searching, and keyword searches, thus enabling local nonprofits and individuals to be more successful in finding the funding they need.
Foundation Center is a nonprofit that gathers and analyzes data to then share publicly so as to enable a better understanding of the field of philanthropy. Their mission is to strengthen the social sector by advancing knowledge about philanthropy in the U.S. and around the world. Foundation Directory Online and Foundation Grants to Individuals Online are two of the ways in which they do this. Individuals can access these databases for free at the Central Library, access is otherwise through paid subscriptions.
