It is essential to have the proper financial systems in place at the start of any business so you can measure everything from expenses to budget to profits. Understanding where you are and where you are headed is the first step in staying financially fit and being a confident business owner. However, reading and understanding the metrics are a different story, especially if you do not have a finance background! Learning how to analyze and interpret your financial statements is essential for spotting potential problems in your young company.

Diana Pereira is a co-founder of the Impact Hub Santa Barbara and over the past 20 years has been involved in numerous startups and growing companies.
