KJEE’s 14th Annual Summer Round Up

Today, 92.9 KJEE announced the lineup for the 14th Annual Summer Round Up at Santa Barbara Bowl featuring alternative chart toppers Dirty Heads, Cold War Kids, AWOLNATION, Law and more on Friday, May 11 at 5:00 PM. After two decades spent chiseling their unique, multi-genre infused sound, Dirty Heads have finally come into their own. Since the release of their 2008 debut Any Port in a Storm, the five-piece band — Jared Watson (vocals), Dustin “Duddy B” Bushnell (vocals/guitar), Jon Olazabal (percussion), Matt Ochoa (drums) and David Foral (bass) — has consistently experimented with their sunny style, leaning heavily on reggae fused with hip-hop cornerstones and scaling back for more acoustic fare, darting between extremes. But it’s with their fifth and self-titled album that the group has felt fully confident in a body of work, ready to bring their unique style to the masses. Recorded in Los Angeles over a period of four months, Dirty Heads marks a stylistic heel-turn for the Huntington Beach, Calif. natives, who enlisted a diverse team of hit-makers including: Da Internz (Rihanna, Nicki Minaj), Drew Pearson (Katy Perry, Zac Brown Band), David Kahne (Lana Del Rey, The Strokes), Jimmy Harry (Madonna, Diplo), Jonas Jeberg (Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony), and a handful of others. The record spans lively tracks like reggae-bounced “Oxygen” to the instantly catchy sing-along “Too Cruel” and horn-blasted lead single “That’s All I Need,” the latter of which captures the nostalgia of carefree adolescence. Dirty Heads comes in the wake of their most successful release to date, 2014’s Sound of Change, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart. This album is marked differently than its predecessors — 2008’s Any Port in a Storm, 2012’s Cabin by the Sea and 2013’s acoustic offering Home — Phantoms of Summer, the former of which spawned the smash single “Lay Me Down” featuring Rome of Sublime with Rome that topped the Alternative Songs chart for 11 weeks.

Cold War Kids are Nathan Willett, Matt Maust, Joe Plummer, Matthew Schwartz, and David Quon. Formed in 2004 in Fullerton, CA, the band has sold more than 800,000 adjusted albums, over two million singles, and racked up over 200 million streams to date. Released in April 2017, LA Divine has sold over 100,000 adjusted albums globally and racked up more than 100 million streams. Cold War Kids recently released a live version of their single, “Can We Hang On?” along with a live performance video of the song. Frontman Nathan Willett describes the track as “a hopeful love song that looks back with nostalgia on the good old days but is uncertain about the future.” “Can We Hang On?” originally appeared on LA Divine, the band’s 2017 sixth studio album. The new version will be included on Audience – a live, greatest hits album, set for digital release on April 13 on Capitol Records.

Formed in 2010, Awolnation crafted one of the most influential songs in years with the chart-topping, record-breaking track “Sail.” The first single off the gold-certified full-length debut Megalithic Symphony, “Sail” was certified 6x platinum in the US and holds the record for the most weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart by an independent artist, the second longest for any artist. The critically-acclaimed sophomore release Run spawned three other Top 10 US singles – Top 5 tracks “I Am” and “Woman Woman,” as well as their first #1 hit on the Billboard Alternative Chart, “Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf).” Awolnation have chosen to use their success as a platform for good, partnering with various charities including Music Saves Lives, Love Your Melon, and The Lance McCullers Jr. Foundation. Awolnation released their third studio album, Here Come the Runts, in February 2018 via Red Bull Records. The album features the singles “Passion,” “Seven Sticks of Dynamite,” and current Top 20 Alt Rock hit, “Handyman.”

Law are a rock band hailing from Long Beach, CA. Formed in 2013, members include Jakob Nowell (lead vocals), Aidan Palacios (guitar), Nick Aguilar (drums) and Logun Spellacy (bass). Their new EP “Toxic” is available now on digital platforms.
