Mike Eliason will describe his experiences photographing the Thomas Fire and the Montecito mudslide. As Public Information Officer of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Mike had unique access to California’s largest wildfire, it’s devastating impact, and the subsequent mudslide in Montecito. He will illustrate his talk with numerous images of both the fire and mudslide.
Mike is well-known to the Santa Barbara community as an outstanding photo-journalist with a record of experience that extends over the past 28 years, and includes three years photographing football games for the NFL, ten years as Photojournalism Professor at Santa Barbara City College, and for the past six years, Public Information Officer for the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. His striking images capture breaking news, business portraiture, sporting and special events, and his work has appeared in the New York Times, USA Today, Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, and local media outlets such as the SB Independent, Noozhawk & Edhat, just to name a few. He also teaches Community Emergency Response Team principles to the SB community.
The Channel City Camera Club is pleased to sponsor this event, which is open to the public.
Due to construction at the Museum of Natural History, parking is limited, so we request that attendees car pool.
