Councilmember Joan Hartmann Sponsoring a Resolution on Foster Care Month
Foster parents Charles Scott and Kristin Scott will be receiving a resolution from Councilmember Joan Hartman for Foster Care Month on May 8th
(SANTA MARIA, Calif.) —April 30, 2018 – It’s another important step in bringing awareness to issues surrounding foster youth: A resolution being sponsored by Councilmember Joan Hartmann for National Foster Care Month will take place on May 8th, 2018 at the Joseph Centeno Betteravia Government Administration Building, Board Hearing Room 511 in Santa Maria at 9:00 A.M.
The resolution is part of an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges children in the foster-care system face and to encourage Congress to implement policy to improve the lives of foster children.
The Scott’s, who have cared for more than fourteen foster children and have three biological children of their own, including one who passed away from cancer last year, have a deep passion for foster care. They became certified as resource parents in October 2015 with the help of Our County. Our Kids; a program of the Santa Barbara County Department of Social Services.
When their son Noah was diagnosed with cancer in July 2016, they encountered questions and criticism of their decision to continue fostering despite his illness. “We talked to Noah about putting it on hold,” Scott said. “Noah immediately said no, he loved the kids and babies, they made him happy. He was a huge advocate.”
