Robbie Kaye, a longtime journalist who creates and tells stories from her life through photography, painting and music, will discuss her new book on Sunday, June 24, at the Wildling Museum of Art and Nature in Solvang.
Kaye’s talk will take place from 3 to 4 p.m. at the museum, located at 1511-B Mission Dr. Admission is $5 for museum members and $10 for the general public.
In “Endurance,” which is Kaye’s second monograph, she showcases photographs of three trees taken over a course of three years in the Santa Ynez Valley. Combined with prose, this book tells the story of Solitude, Magic and Majesty, names that Kaye attributed to these trees.
They have endured fire, floods and drought and remain strong in stature, not unlike the human experience. The book’s foreword is written by Deborah Lee Davis, author, artist, healer and a longtime resident of the Santa Ynez Valley.
Kaye will release a new mixed media piece in conjunction with her new book.
Kaye’s talk will be aired on livestream via the Wildling’s Facebook page.
The author shared a quote from her book:
“Every time I took a photograph of these trees, it allowed me to study them, to focus in closer and my connection grew deeper.
Kaye, a native of New York, studied music at Berklee College of Music in Boston and photography at USC. She has written songs for Warner Bros. and Disney and has exhibited her photographs and paintings internationally.
“Beauty and Wisdom,” her first monograph, details the strength and determination of older women in an overlooked generation in American culture.
Kaye will have a limited amount of prints and books on hand to sign. A portion of those proceeds will be donated to naturetrack.org, a Santa Ynez Valley organization that inspires students to be respectful stewards of the natural world.
