“Matilda The Musical” Auditions

“Matilda The Musical” to Open New Jo Ann Caines Theatre Collective at LaCumbre Junior HS
Memorial Day weekend will welcome Roald Dahl’s “Matilda the Musical” as the inaugural presentation at La Cumbre Junior High’s new Jo Ann Caines Theatre Collective. The Tony Award winning show is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that reveals the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.
The Santa Barbara School for the Performing Arts (SOPA) , Santa Barbara Dance Network, La Cumbre Junior High School, and Santa Barbara Community Academy are partners in this community production with the help of Gary Smith, the theatre’s manager. Matilda the Musical will be under the direction by Tyler Koontz, musical direction by Dauri Kennedy, choreography by Natalia Emily Smith of SB Dance Network. Rehearsals will be Mondays, Wednesdays and some Sundays after casting is complete.
Auditions for child & adult actors will be held at the Jo Ann Caines Theatre this weekend, January 19 & 20 from 11:30-2:30 PM continuing Monday & Wednesday next week from 3:45-6:00 PM. Callbacks will be Sunday, January 27 between 1:00 and 4:00 PM also at the Theatre. Child actors will receive up to 100 hours of instruction in Theatre Arts. The production also offers opportunities for students interested in stage management and set design through classes offered by Sian Ayers and Ed Cavazos. This program has a tuition fees for CHILD ACTORS only and offers scholarships. Audition participants should bring a monologue or poem and a memorized song.
