Wed Sept 25 6:30-8pm South Coast Watershed Resource Center 2981 Cliff Dr Santa Barbara California 9310

Please join Alana Lea, as she describes current situations in Brazil’s forests, both the Atlantic Rainforest where much of her work is focused, and also an informative and unique perspective of the fires currently burning in the Amazon.

Alana Lea is the founder and Director of IGiveTrees (www.igivetrees.org) , a non profit involved in reforestation projects in the Atlantic Rainforest of Brazil, which has been reduced by 90% by slash and burn agriculture and cattle ranching. There is an urgent need to restore the regional aquifers by replanting the forest through Agroforestry.

The iGiveTrees campaign has been supported by global citizens spanning 5 continents since 2009. Our field partners plant native species trees at a size, and in a manner that is conducive to their growth, rather than just being statistics that die off within months due to lack of care. iGive Trees grows native trees in small regional nurseries, then planted out by local tree planters, creating jobs for local populations. iGives Trees respects the dignity, wisdom and value of every person involved in the process, from seed harvesters, to nurserymen, to organizational partners, to subsistence farmers.

In 2016, iGiveTrees was recognized as one of “100 Projects for the Climate” by the French Ministry of the Environment, and was invited to participate in the climate change conferences COP22, 23 and 24 as well as the 4th World Congress on Agroforestry. iGiveTrees is a Project of Inquiring Systems Incorporated, a 501(c)(3) non-profit in the U.S.A.

She’s an active member of the Drawdown Coalition and the 4per1000 Consortium, and serves on the Board of Advisors for Kiss the Ground. As founder of the iGiveTrees reforestation projects, she was recognized for creating a citizen initiative that mitigates the effects of global warming by the French Ministry of Environment.
