SPECIAL ACTING WORKSHOP at SBCC’s School of Extended Learning: this state funded workshop is FREE and will bring together performers of all levels of experience and from diverse backgrounds. Unlike many labs and classes, which can be costly and careerist and rife with promises of stardom, this workshop will foster a love of the craft of acting and provide a sense of community, a safe space in which beginners and professionals can work together on artistic and personal growth.

Instructor: Philip Levien has been active in professional and educational theatre for over 40 years, as an actor, teacher , and director. He’s worked on texts from Shakespeare to Neil Simon. He’s appeared on stages in New York and LA and points in between, including The Ahmanson, Aspen Playwrights Festival, Theatricum Botanicum, Emlin Theatre, and the Odyssey. He’s appeared in over 100 films and tv shows, including: PATRIOT GAMES, BEVERLY HILLS COP, DALLAS, KNOTS LANDING, and FULL HOUSE. He’s also been an SB Distinguished Educator, ADL Educational Honoree, a SWCriP Fellow, and a Carnegie Fellow. He holds a master degree in dramatic art from UCSB.
