VICTORIAN TO SPANISH COLONIAL REVIVAL ARCHITECTURE: THE UNIVERSITY CLUB AS AN EARLY MODEL
Lunch & Learn: Lecture & Q&A – Buffet Lunch included in ticket price.
In the context of Santa Barbara’s architectural cadence, the University Club of Santa Barbara stands as a celebrated leader at the forefront of our Spanish Revival Architecture movement of the early 1900’s. Historically named Calkins Castle, this once private Victorian residence was completely redesigned in the Spanish Colonial Revival style by esteemed Architect Winsor Soule, doing so at a time when the movement of designing our city under the primary aesthetical influence of Spanish Revival Architecture was struggling to take hold.
Join Architect and Art Historian Anthony Grumbine, Principal at Harrison Design, as he explores the storied history and grand design of this important Structure of Merit.
