As part of a global celebration to honor Dr. Maria Montessori’s 150th birthday anniversary, Montessori Center School will be hosting a series of free speaker sessions with individuals who embody Montessori’s values. On Thursday, September 24th, at 4 p.m., MCS hosts a parent discussion with pediatric psychologist and parent coach, Dr. Ann-Louise Lockhart on the topic, “Worry, Stress & Anxiety: How Do I Regulate Myself and My Kids.” This one-hour presentation includes a 15-minute Q+A and is intended for adults only.
This discussion is designed to help parents understand the differences between worry, stress, and anxiety and how they each show up at school, home, and when things don’t go as planned. Dr. Lockhart will address the importance of parental self-regulation and co-regulation to ensure a healthier child, parent, and household. Dr. Lockhart will also talk about why teaching children flexibility, adaptability, self-regulation, self-compassion, resilience, and problem-solving are some of the most valuable skills to learn at school, at home, and beyond.
Key Learning Outcomes:
•Why children and parents become dysregulated and the most effective strategies to help with self-regulation
•Reasons highly sensitive children and those with executive functioning challenges often have more challenges, including strategies to help them feel more balanced
•Ideas to address the whole child through empathy, validation, and encouragement to improve the parent-child relationship
