ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2022 Italian pianist Antonio Artese and his trio will perform a special, one-night only performance of jazz favorites. He’ll also premiere a couple new jazz tunes based on opera melodies with a twist: Carmen’s ‘Habeñera’ meets ‘Besame Mucho’… and more! This Night Out is sure to delight; The fearlessly innovative pianist has been praised for his ability to lead audiences on a joyful, seamlessly extemporaneous musical journey.
This concert has something for everyone, and would also make a perfect last-minute Valentine’s Day gift. Also, Student Tickets have just been announced at just $22.
The date (2-22-22) has been specially chosen to invite a touch of extra magic and musical alchemy. Artese will be joined by local favorites Jim Connolly (double bass) and Luis Muñoz (drums/percussion). Antonio, a 1st prize winner of the Rachmaninov International Competition, blends his lifelong passion for jazz with serious classical chops, a gift for improvisation, and – of course – an Italian flair!
Presenter Joan Rutkowski (a longtime friend of Artese‘s) carefully chose the date Tuesday, February 22, 2022 (2-22-22) to invite an extra touch of musical alchemy. “This evening will be magical. Antonio plays with such elegance and spontaneity; his wit and musical sensitivity are exceptional.”
Artese resides in Siena, Italy and is a much sought-after pianist in both Europe and the U.S. He studied at the Conservatorio “Santa Cecilia” in Rome and at UCSB. He is the founder of several music festivals in Italy, and in 2017 he was appointed Dean of the Global Academic Programs at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. He has recorded several albums, including the piano solo album “Live in Santa Barbara.”
Artese is thrilled to be presenting this concert at the Lobero. “Santa Barbara is like a second home to me. I have so many dear friends and wonderful memories built around this beautiful town. Santa Barbara has provided so much inspiration over the years; I look forward to sharing my music with friends old and new.”
